Smoke and soot damage in commercial buildings

10/5/2020 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot are very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within a commercial building, causing hidden damage, creating an odor and affecting the air quality. It’s not often that the South Portland metro area experiences widespread linger smoke like we did in September, 2020, but if you have a fire event near you there is a chance that you have smoke or soot damage in your building.

SERVPRO of Tigard/Tualatin/Lake Oswego/West Linn and Beaverton has the smoke damage expertise and experience to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan to reduce hazards for you building and its occupants.

When lingering smoke and soot is present, an air scrubber can be used for cleaning and controlling air quality. An air scrubber works by air entering the unit and passing through a three-stage filtration system to capture smoke, fumes, microbial spores, dust and particulate. Clean air is returned to the environment.

SERVPRO of Tigard/Tualatin/Lake Oswego/West Linn and Beaverton equips our air scrubbers with high grade HEPA and Activated Carbon Filters that trap toxins and fine particulate matter to remove them from the air. Removing the smoke from the affected area is the first step in preventing damage caused by smoke and soot. If your property sustains damage from linger smoke inside your building, cleaning is the next step after air filtration.

If you experience smoke or soot damage in your building, call SERVPRO of Tigard/Tualatin at 503-684-5829 as soon as practicable after the damage occurs.
